Turkish Geographical Review Editorial Pre-Evaluation Criteria

Turkish Geographical Review (TGR) is an international journal that enables the publication of scientific research belonging to geographical approaches (physical, human, natural environment, and geographical information systems) that produce solutions for time- and space-dependent physical and human problems, and, in this respect, to share scientific knowledge. It aims to pioneer the publication of studies produced with a modern geography approach in both physical and human geography.

The journal's main motivation is to provide a platform for works that produce scientific solutions for the analytical understanding of the social, physical, and nature-human relations required by age, as well as the spatial differentiation and spatial distribution that constitute its systematics. In this respect, the journal is open to all original articles that produce solutions to human and physical geography problems that apply the basic philosophy of geography to the production of spatial information.

In this context, the article publication criteria should include some answers and special criteria, in addition to general standards.

Our expectations from both the editorial and referee processes are as follows:

Does the study contain new and important information?

At this point, although each study contains a certain importance and knowledge transfer, the internationality of the publication is the most important priority. Does it bring innovation in terms of theoretical, methodological, and professional practitioners in the field? In this sense, we do not prioritise publications that contain local data and results.

Is the method defined in a holistic and understandable way?

One of the important parts of the publication is the methodology, which is expected to represent the publication and be understood by the reader. If the publication presents a work in the field of physical geography, it should incorporate modern, innovative methods from the physical sciences, and if it involves statistical analysis, it should incorporate models for prediction and validation. If the publication is a study in human geography, then the primary data collection processes should have innovative, modern designs from the social sciences. We should include detailed information about processes like research design, data collection processes, participants, ethics committee permissions, data analysis, and interpretation. In particular, studies presented in the form of vague expressions such as "geographical field study," "geographical synthesis," and "geographical mapping" will not be evaluated in our journal.

Are the findings' interpretations and conclusions supported?

The study's purpose, findings, interpretations, and conclusions based on these findings should be compatible and complementary to each other. Recommendations are also an integral part of this process. The findings should provide support for the study. We should interpret the results in light of the research question and existing literature. For this, a dimension of the research consisting of an analytical literature review, theoretical or theoretical framework sections must be presented. You should clearly state any limitations and uncertainties in the data and methods.

Are the ideas and supporting points comprehensively organised?

The publication should clearly organize the study's purpose, its hypothesis or research questions, and the ideas that support it.

Is the logical organisation and linkage provided?

The manuscript should be logically structured with standard sections such as introduction, literature review (or theoretical framework or conceptual framework), methodology or methods, discussion, and conclusion, and sufficient background information should be provided to relate it to the existing literature. The research should clearly state its broader significance and relevance for the field of geography.

Is the language quality adequate?

The language should be clear and in accordance with the rules of spelling. It should be written in clear and concise language, avoiding unnecessary jargon.

-Additionally;
The study is expected to bring a new solution to the problem addressed or to bring a better and different solution to a solved problem. This implies clearly presenting the research's output in an output section, highlighting its potential applications and the impact it has on the field.

In addition, it is also required that the study has the potential to be cited in the international and national arenas, that it has made a new contribution to the scientific knowledge in the field, and that this contribution is clearly expressed.

Consider getting feedback from your colleagues or advisors before uploading your article to the system. Look at previously published work in our journal and critically assess the similarities and differences between your paper and these studies.

To ensure compliance with the journal's specific requirements, authors should carefully review the specific editorial guidelines provided by the journal. They should formally design their manuscript using the template we have published on our journal's website. Additionally, since our journal adheres to APA 7 standards, they should align their manuscript accordingly.
